Wednesday 27th September is World School Milk Day and the Dairy Council is celebrating by highlighting the importance of milk for school children across Northern Ireland.
A carton of school milk provides children with a natural source of many nutrients needed for their growth and development.
As well as being fantastic value for money, school milk is a rich source of calcium, important for growing bones; a carton of break–time milk provides half of a 5–year–old’s daily calcium needs, and over 40% of a 7–10–year–old’s.
Mid–morning milk is also a good source of protein and vitamin B12 and contains other important nutrients including vitamin B2, iodine, phosphorus and potassium. It can help keep children well–hydrated too.
Find out more about the benefits of break–time milk here or download our Milk & More booklet.

About World School Milk Day
In 2000, the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (UN FAO) declared the last Wednesday of each September to be World School Milk Day, an international day to recognise and celebrate the benefits of milk to the health and development of school children.
