Knowledge has always been a key enabler of technical progress and sustainability improvement within the Northern Ireland dairy sector.
As DAERA launches the new Farm Support and Development Programme (FSDP) there will be a range of avenues that will be open to all farmers to access information and training.
Participation in training to understand and utilise the results and reports of new schemes within the FSDP such as the Soil Nutrient Health Scheme, the Carbon Footprinting Programme and the Northern Ireland Bovine Genetics Programme will be offered to farmers as these schemes are rolled out.
The College of Agriculture Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) have a dedicated team of agriculture advisers and technologists whose aim is to holistically develop farm businesses, ensuring that the productivity, environmental sustainability and resilience agendas are all addressed. CAFRE provides a range of training opportunities for farmers and its website is regularly updated with support available at sector level as well as general business and environmental management.
